TEACHING
MY TEACHING
My teaching focuses on the preparation of teachers for socially just, student-centered, and culturally and linguistically sustaining classrooms. I train teachers on how to be inclusive of students’ needs, to address the challenges they face because of their complex identities, and to identify hidden needs, such as special supports for undocumented students or those who need to hold employment outside our program. My teaching style incorporates varied teaching methods including whole group discussions, student-led seminars, small group projects, and field-based learning experiences. I also include a variety of self, peer and teacher assessment to promote equity and self-monitoring. The tools used in my classroom include texts, videos, and materials from racially, culturally and linguistically diverse authors and materials developed specifically for the bilingual and Dual Language classroom.
